HURRICANE KATRINA DISASTER RELIEF

The damage caused from Hurricane Katrina and its aftermath is staggering, destroying many homes, businesses, and lives. Currently, the physical damage to the cities and communities of the Gulf Region is estimated at $200 Billion and that number continues to rise. The emotional damage to the families, the children, and the loved ones lost to this horrific tragedy is immeasurable.

All around our nation and across the globe we share the burden of this devastation though we can only imagine their pain and sorrow. We have seen the photos, read the articles and watched countless broadcasts from the areas where Katrina laid down her fury and tore through the lives of so many Americans.

Families torn apart by the devastation are scattered across our land finding refuge in shelters and homes far and wide. With the help of organizations like the Red Cross and The Salvation Army, and generous donations from people all over the world, they are just beginning to come together and rebuild their lives as they continue to survive every day. These are Americans, our Neighbors, our friends and loved ones and they need our help.

Since Hurricane Katrina made landfall, the Red Cross has provided nearly 400,000 hurricane survivors with more than 2.8 million overnight stays in 1,250 shelters across 25 states and the District of Columbia.

On Tuesday night, Sept. 27, the Red Cross housed more than 35,000 hurricane survivors in nearly 280 shelters and housed more than 370,000 people in hotels/motels in 48 states and D.C.

As of Sept. 28, the Red Cross has distributed financial assistance to more than 688,000 families (2.2 million hurricane survivors). Approximately $1.1 billion in donations has been spent already or has been committed to hurricane relief efforts in the wake of Katrina.

Credit unions across the nation and around the world celebrate and share in the philosophy "People Helping People" though Hamilton Horizons has taken that one step further by adopting "Neighbors Helping Neighbors" as a motto we put into practice everyday.

We're reaching out to our neighbors, our members, our family and friends. Please join us in this effort to make a difference to the survivors of Katrina. Spread the word. Open your heart.

Share in the spirit of credit unions and help us to help our neighbors.

Please Give.

Donations will be accepted at Hamilton Horizons Federal Credit Union through October.
